Bruce is a beautiful 4 year old pittie boy who was saved from being euthanized at my local county shelter (OCAS, Orlando, FL), only to be adopted out to a “home” where he was kept on a heavy chain outside and headed towards becoming a bait dog.
Luckily he’s safe now, however it appears that someone attempted to break his rear legs and he is in great pain, unable to walk. His back legs and knees are swollen, he’s also arthritic, and has badly infected ears. Both of his hips are completely dislocated and he will need surgery on both hips to be able to walk again. In addition, both of his ACLs are torn, which means another two surgeries. He’s been hospitalized instead of boarding, because he’s being kept on strong pain medications to give him some comfort. Obviously he is facing a long road to recovery as they can only do one surgery at a time.
The good part is that Bruce is alive, safe, and, unlike so many other dogs who have suffered similarly, has a great chance at a new life. He just needs some help, and hey, he deserves it (just like every innocent dog in need out there). The people who have saved him are not a rescue group, just a couple of animal lovers who are trying to do the right thing, but unfortunately for them the right thing is incredibly expensive and they don’t have the finances or networking that rescues do.
If you want to help, you can donate here
or click through the photo, or if you prefer, donations can be made directly to Kingsley Animal Hospital in Orange Park, FL: (904)264-2419. Please mention it’s for Bruce. The hospital is closed on Wednesday, but please leave a message and they’ll get back to you on Thursday.
Think of forgoing a cup of coffee at a cafe or a beer out at a bar this weekend and donating a few bucks to him instead. Every little bit adds up. And if you can’t, please share.
